I truly loved working with this couple in their downtown condo. When I met them, he had just had knee surgery and was using a walker. She was frustrated because it was challenging to have her two young granddaughters over and have a place to bake together that was Comfortable and conducive to sharing some quality time and having fun at home. The original space plan, furniture, TV and flow no longer functioned for this couple.
We reduced the amount and size of furniture to accommodate better movement and flow in the space. We designed a better space plan, built a beautiful entertainment unit to house the TV at eye level, and removed a non-functioning eating bar to replace it with a large functional island (lots of space to get around it) for baking and entertaining. Now we had a new TV area, reading nooks, as well as space for baking and entertaining. All of this was accomplished by encompassing universal design and the couple's needs for the future.
